Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

There’s no doubt that there have been a myriad of well-known players that have donned the Fleur-de-Lis over the years, from two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year Drew Brees to 11-time Pro Bowl tackle Willie Roaf.

With the NFL dead period in full swing, LouisianaBets.com utilized ChatGPT to learn who the top all-time 10 Saints players were.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot device created by OpenAI in November 2022. The device has taken the United States by storm as companies and everyday people are utilizing it in their day-to-day lives. The program is trained to follow instructions in a prompt and provide a detailed response.

So we break from Louisiana sports betting sites to test out the new AI and see who it believes are the top 10 best Saints of all time.

ChatGPT’s Top 10 New Orleans Saints of All-Time

For this study, we typed in “Who are the Top 10 New Orleans Saints of all-time?’ ChatGPT prefaced its answer by saying, “As an AI language model, I do not have personal preferences or the ability to form opinions. However, I can provide a list of the top 10 New Orleans Saints players based on statistical achievements, impact on the team, and overall legacy. They are in no particular order.”

Here's who the AI service says stands tall among the thousands of players to play on Sundays for the Saints:

How Did ChatGPT Do With The List?

It’s hard to argue that Brees is the most impactful player in Saints history, taking over at quarterback at a time when New Orleans was reeling from the after effects of Hurricane Katrina and leading the franchise to its first Super Bowl title in 2009 and to the playoffs nine times in his 15-year run with the team.

Unsurprisingly, Brees was named as the top player in franchise history by ChatGPT, knocking off franchise cornerstones from previous generations, like lineman Willie Roaf, linebacker Rickey Jackson and kicker Morten Andersen.

Roaf excelled for the Saints when the franchise was down, with the former Louisiana Tech lineman making the first team All Pro list six times (and the second team three times), while reaching 11 Pro Bowls during his 14-year NFL career.

The Arkansas native was a mainstay for New Orleans during a period where the franchise made the playoffs once during a nine-year period, giving Saints fans someone to root for in the dark days of team history.

Other Saints legends to find their way into ChatGPT’s top 10 were Jackson, who played in New Orleans for 13 years, and Andersen, who hit 77.6% of his field goal attempts (302 of 389) with the Saints between 1982 and 1994.

The rest of the top 10 includes cornerstone linebacker Sam Mills — who made four Pro Bowls and the second team All Pro list twice during his run in the Crescent City — running back Deuce McAllister, quarterback Archie Manning, wideout Marques Colston, guard Jahri Evans and wide receiver Joe Horn.

All of them had varying impacts on the Saints as a franchise, transforming them from an NFL afterthought to a perennial Super Bowl contender.
