We then utilized the estimated July 1st 2022 Census state population numbers to figure out the states with the best chefs by capita. Note this is where they are located, not where they are from.

Overall, top chefs finished with the 10th highest per capita ranking of top chefs nationally, at 0.000023, despite landing 106 chefs on Best Chefs America’s list.
On a national level, Louisiana’s per capita figure finished between No. 9 Oregon (0.000024) and No. 11 Colorado (0.0000222).
The state’s sheer number of top chefs ranked 11th nationally, behind others like California (796), New York (540), Florida (270), New Jersey (198), Virginia (192), Colorado (130), North Carolina (128), Nevada (125), Massachusetts (116) and Washington (111).
Conversely, the lowest number of top chefs per state was Alaska, with 11, followed by Montana (15), Wyoming (17), New Hampshire, and Idaho (23 apiece).
